The Greige Craze!

Are you a Greige fan?

What did you think this was going to be about?  The latest genre of music, a new dance craze or a current fashion trend.  Greige is the perfect marriage of gray and beige.  If gray and beige had a baby, they would name it Greige.  I thought this was called Taupe.  As I have learned, Greige is not Taupe.

Your next thought might be then what is the difference between Greige and Taupe? This is where it can get confusing.    First we must understand Beige and Gray.  Beige is basically a light brown, you get brown from mixing blue, red and yellow.  Vary the amount of these primary colors and you will warm up or cool down its undertones.  Gray is easy, just Black and White.  Mixing small amounts of green, blue or purple will still give you Gray, but will introduce green, blue and purple undertones.

Taupe has red and green undertones.  Taupe can be thought of as beige with some black and red and green undertones.  Greige can also be thought of as Beige with some black with yellow and blue undertones.  I think an easy way to tell the difference is if the gray-beige has yellow or blue undertones it is Greige.  If the gray-beige has red or green undertones it is Taupe.  If all else fails, hopefully the name will tell you!
